This is one of our favorite spots on the Island! Head over to GIB to enjoy a brew on their patio. Meredith's favorite is the Causeway Kolsch, while Ross enjoys their Citra Haze IPA.
If you forgot to pack your book, visit Galveston Bookshop to find your next page-turner. They have a large selection of Galveston or Texas histories, and you might find a first edition hiding on some of the shelves.
Visit the historical homes that line Broadway Avenue. Ashton Villa, built in 1859, is Ross' ancestral home. It is the first brick mansion built in Galveston and one of the first in Texas. If you stop by the house, please tell Ross' grandmother, Trish! She is a Galveston historian and would love to tell you more about the family's history. Other historical homes near Ashton Villa include The Bishop's Palace and the Moody Mansion.
Visit The Bryan Museum to see one of the largest personal collections of Texas history. This building is a 1900 Storm survivor and served as the Galveston Orphan's Home until the 1980s. Ross and Meredith love to spend the afternoon taking in new exhibits and revisiting those permanent displays that tell the story of Texas and the Southwest.
The Battleship USS Texas recently underwent dry dock restoration and is scheduled to be docked permanently in Galveston. Tours are available starting in November 2024, so check the website before you head to the docks!
Moody Gardens includes an 18-hole golf course, aquarium, and other attractions.
The Galveston Railroad Museum contains one of the largest restored railroad collections in the southwest and one of the five largest in the country. The museum is located at the end of the Historic Strand District and is a great way to end a walk down the Strand.
If all the sightseeing made you hungry, you must visit Mama Teresa's! Meredith loves their pizza so much that Ross had his parents pick it up for dinner the night that he proposed. We celebrated over a Chorizo pizza and a bottle of red wine!
